National Quality Standard PhotoCards tool

Use the National Quality Standard PhotoCards tool to make the National Quality Standard visible to your community. The tool allows you to create National Quality Standard information cards with photographs from your community. Each card has prompt questions, and can be used to guide discussion at staff meetings.

About the cards

You can use the cards to:

  • illustrate practices around the service
  • provide illustrative evidence in newsletters, reports and auditing processes
  • prompt discussion about how to improve delivery of each colour-matched element and quality area of the National Quality Standard.

Make sure you have appropriate permissions from families and staff members prior to using images of children.

Open the tool

In Windows 10, go to ‘All apps’ and select ‘NQS Photocards Customiser’.

Alternatively, if you are on a Mac, select the ‘Launchpad’ icon. Then, select the ‘NQS Photocard Customiser’ icon.

Set up the tool

A ‘help window’ pop-up will appear. Uncheck ‘Keep assisted mode on’. Then select ‘Ready’.

Note: If you keep the assisted mode on (ie keep the box checked), the ‘help window’ will open every time the application is opened.

Create a photo card

The ‘NQS PhotoCards Customiser’ home page will now be displayed.

  1. Go to a quality area by selecting the ‘Choose a quality area’ button at the bottom right.

  2. Select a quality area.

    The relevant quality area page will open.

  3. Select an  element.

    The relevant element page will open.

  4. Select ‘Work with this card’.

  5. Select ‘Import a picture’.
  6. Browse for the picture you want to upload, and select ‘Open’.

    The selected picture will be imported into the template.

  7. Drag the picture border lines to select the part of the picture you want to use.
  8. Select ‘Done’.
  9. Select ‘Save your card’.
  10. Browse to the location where you want to save your card.
  11. Select ‘Save’.

    The card will be saved to that location.

  12. The saved card can be printed.

    A finished photocard. It is in two halves: the bottom half is the element description with the imported photograph. The top half is information about the element, with prompt questions. The top half is printed upside down so that the card can be folded.

  13. Fold the printed image and run it through a laminator.

Use the help window

  1. To view the help window, first select the question mark symbol ‘?’ at the top left.

Close the tool

  1. Select the ‘X’ at the top right.
